Detecting Android malware is crucial in safeguarding mobile devices and user data. We introduce a novel approach to android malware detection through convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and Explainable AI. First, we present a methodology for processing android applications, transforming them into images, and through a series of experiments, we demonstrate the efficacy of CNNs in identifying malware within these images. Furthermore, we employ Explainable AI techniques to analyse the decision-making processes of these models. Our approach goes beyond detection; we rigorously (...) analyse the key aspects that distinguish malware, allowing us to improve and validate our data transformation methodology. This emphasis on understanding the decision-making processes of the models is the main aspect of our approach, as it provides insight into the mechanisms of malware, enhancing our understanding of malware detection and reinforcing the robustness of our conclusions. In essence, our work not only provides a comprehensive framework for Android malware detection but also underscores the significance of Explainable AI in cybersecurity research, integrating advanced computational techniques with a detailed understanding of malware behaviour. COVID-19 is a disease that affects the quality of life in all aspects. However, the government policy applied in 2020 impacted the lifestyle of the whole world. In this sense, the study of sentiments of people in different countries is a very important task to face future challenges related to lockdown caused by a virus. To contribute to this objective, we have proposed a natural language processing model with the aim to detect positive and negative feelings in open-text answers obtained (...) from a survey in pandemic times. We have proposed a distilBERT transformer model to carry out this task. We have used three approaches to perform a comparison, obtaining for our best model the following average metrics: Accuracy: 0.823, Precision: 0.826, Recall: 0.793 and F1 Score: 0.803. (shrink)

The objective of Working Group 4 of the COST Action NET4Age-Friendly is to examine existing policies, advocacy, and funding opportunities and to build up relations with policy makers and funding organisations. Also, to synthesize and improve existing knowledge and models to develop from effective business and evaluation models, as well as to guarantee quality and education, proper dissemination and ensure the future of the Action. The Working Group further aims to enable capacity building to improve interdisciplinary participation, to promote knowledge (...) exchange and to foster a cross-European interdisciplinary research capacity, to improve cooperation and co-creation with cross-sectors stakeholders and to introduce and educate students SHAFE implementation and sustainability. To enable the achievement of the objectives of Working Group 4, the Leader of the Working Group, the Chair and Vice-Chair, in close cooperation with the Science Communication Coordinator, developed a template to map the current state of SHAFE policies, funding opportunities and networking in the COST member countries of the Action. On invitation, the Working Group lead received contributions from 37 countries, in a total of 85 Action members. The contributions provide an overview of the diversity of SHAFE policies and opportunities in Europe and beyond. These were not edited or revised and are a result of the main areas of expertise and knowledge of the contributors; thus, gaps in areas or content are possible and these shall be further explored in the following works and reports of this WG. But this preliminary mapping is of huge importance to proceed with the WG activities. In the following chapters, an introduction on the need of SHAFE policies is presented, followed by a summary of the main approaches to be pursued for the next period of work. The deliverable finishes with the opportunities of capacity building, networking and funding that will be relevant to undertake within the frame of Working Group 4 and the total COST Action. Software vulnerabilities are the root cause for a multitude of security problems in computer systems. Owing to their efficiency and tight control over low-level system resources, the C and C++ programming languages are extensively used for a myriad of purposes, from implementing operating system kernels to user-space applications. However, insufficient or improper memory management frequently leads to invalid memory accesses, eventually resulting in memory corruption vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities are used as a foothold for elaborated attacks that bypass existing defense methods. (...) In this paper, we summarise the main memory safety violation types (i.e. memory errors), and analyse how they are exploited by attackers and the main mitigation methods proposed in the research community. We further systematise the most relevant techniques with regards to memory corruption identification in current programs. (shrink)

This study evaluates the comprehension of generalized conversational implicatures (GCI) in children with and without autism spectrum disorder (ASD), using a GCI test constructed based on the Levinson model, which distinguishes between three types of implicatures: type Q (or scalar: “what is not referred to does not occur”); type I (“by default, it is not necessary to say what can be assumed”); and type M (“if someone is expressing something in a not very simple or marked way, it is because (...) s/he is describing a situation that is not very typical, frequent, or prototypical”). In addition to the ASD group ( n = 22), two comparison groups were utilized: a group matched on chronological age with the ASD group, but with a higher linguistic age (TCD group, n = 22), and a group matched on linguistic age with the ASD group, but with a lower chronological age (TLD group, n = 22). In all cases, linguistic age was assessed with the Peabody test. The performance of the three groups on the GCI test was compared (overall and on each type of implicature), and performance on the three types of implicature was compared within each group. The ASD group obtained worse performance than the other two groups, both overall and for each implicature type, without also obtaining differences in performance on the three implicature types. The TCD group obtained better performance than the TLD group on overall performance, but not on each implicature type, and both groups obtained lower performance on the type M heuristics than on the type I. Based on these results, the children with ASD in our study presented limitations in the comprehension of the three types of GCI, but it was not possible to obtain evidence for an inferential continuum of the three types of GCI. However, in the two typical development groups, this evidence was obtained, leading us to propose an inferential continuum model based on the different levels of dependence on the context of each of the three types of implicatures, with type M implicatures being more contextually dependent. International criminal law (ICL) is an achievement, but at the same time a challenge to the traditional conception of the principle of legality (_lex praevia_, _scripta_, and _stricta_ – Sect. 1). International criminal tribunals have often based conviction for international crimes on unwritten norms the existence and scope of which they have failed to substantiate. In so doing, they have evaded the objection that they were applying _ex post facto_ criminal laws. This approach, the relaxation of the concept of law (...) by including norms whose existence is doubtful, has apparently served to maintain a concept of strict legality, but it is unsatisfying (Sect. 2). In my opinion, the strict principle of legality that has linked its absolute validity to the positivity of law is not the correct premise. It makes sense to state that positivity and validity do not necessarily go hand in hand (Sect. 3). Applied to ICL, this means that it is neither necessary nor convincing to “conceal” supra-positive law as positive law, as some decisions of the international criminal tribunals do. For this reason, I consider that Radbruch’s formula, consisting in admitting that there are supra-positive limits which positive law must respect in order to be valid, is well-founded (Sect. 4). The path taken by this significant philosopher of law is methodologically convincing, and it squarely faces the problem of the value of positive law. Nevertheless, if we admit Radbruch’s formula and thereby the limited value of positive law (if we claim that the validity of the law depends on it respecting supra-positive minimums of justice), we must also face the problem of the definition of supra-positive values, the epistemological difficulties of having access to them (Sect. 5), and the question of the scope and enforceability of supra-positive law (Sect. 6). In summary, this article aims to explain why Radbruch’s formula offers a convincing conceptual basis for international criminal legality and, in doing so, aims to contribute to the discussion about the foundations of ICL. Este artículo propone acercarse a la jurisprudencia “ecocéntrica” para evaluar el papel que en la misma están jugando la noción de Gaia y la de Pachamama. Para ello, comienza analizando el actual proceso de ecologización del derecho y la noción de justicia socioecológica. Posteriormente, describe dos propuestas dentro de este ámbito: el Derecho de Sistema Tierra y los derechos de naturaleza. Además, expone las dos nociones de naturaleza que las informan: Gaia y Pachamama, analizando la compatibilidad o incompatibilidad conceptual entre (...) ambos. Tomando como base este trabajo conceptual realiza posteriormente un análisis cualitativo de sentencias “ecocéntricas”. En el mismo se evalúa el peso de las nociones de Gaia y Pachamama y si, en el ámbito de las sentencias, estas nociones se presentan como antagónicas. Finalmente, se valora si este supuesto giro “ecocéntrico” en la jurisprudencia está o no suponiendo un cambio político análogo en el razonamiento de las sentencias y si estas se alejan o no del utilitarismo antropocéntrico de nociones como el desarrollo sostenible. Healthcare professionals often face ethical conflicts and challenges related to decision-making that have necessitated consideration of the use of conscientious objection (CO). No current guidelines exist within Spain’s healthcare system regarding acceptable rationales for CO, the appropriate application of CO, or practical means to support healthcare professionals who wish to become conscientious objectors. As such, a procedural framework is needed that not only assures the appropriate use of CO by healthcare professionals but also demonstrates its ethical validity, legislative compliance through (...) protection of moral freedoms and patients’ rights to receive health care. Our proposal consists of prerequisites of eligibility for CO (individual reference, specific clinical context, ethical justification, assurance of non-discrimination, professional consistency, attitude of mutual respect, assurance of patient rights and safety) and a procedural process (notification and preparation, documentation and confidentiality, evaluation of prerequisites, non-abandonment, transparency, allowance for unforeseen objection, compensatory responsibilities, access to guidance and/or consultative advice, and organizational guarantee of professional substitution). We illustrate the real-world utility of the proposed framework through a case discussion in which our guidelines are applied. (shrink)

Para ello, me sirvo de su misma noción de “intertextualidad”, que sitúo en el contexto de su encuentro intelectual con Jacques Derrida y, específicamente, con sus nociones de “différance” y “deconstrucción”. Aceptando que la teoría kristeviana de la chora reproduce una versión binarista de la diferencia sexual al plantear lo simbólico y lo semiótico como espacios diferenciados, defiendo la tesis de que la “intertextualidad” invita a (...) una concepción de lo simbólico que pone en jaque la oposición binarista suscrita por Kristeva. The increasing expansion of human settlements and encroachment into wildlife territories has led to an increase in human–wildlife conflict. This conflict is complex, and standardizing human–wildlife interactions remains a challenge.In this chapter, we describe four types of interactions: (1) negative for both tapirs and humans, such as collisions with vehicles, which can result in the loss of tapirs as well as serious accidents that pose risks to human safety in addition to economic losses, and crop raiding, which is negative for (...) humans mainly because of the economic loss when it triggers negative human attitudes, usually leading to tapir retaliation; (2) negative for wildlife and positive for humans, such as hunting/poaching, which is detrimental to tapirs; (3) positive for wildlife and negative for humans, such as cases of crop raiding where there is no retaliation; and (4) positive for both wildlife and humans, such as local initiatives to promote human well-being and tapir conservation through ecotourism. We also describe actions that have been called for to mitigate tapir crop raiding in some countries, such as the implementation of preventive measures and compensation programs, which can be effective tools to reduce conflict and promote coexistence. Compensating farmers who have suffered losses due to tapir crop raiding. Finally, the implementation of these measures will not only ensure the protection of tapirs and their habitats, but will also foster a sense of shared responsibility, leading to greater social cohesion and a better future for both people and tapirs. El análisis de nuestra filogenia, basado esencialmente en los registros fósiles y arqueológicos, nos ofrece información crucial sobre la trayectoria evolutiva del género Homo. Sin embargo, el problema radica es la escasez de muestras para un análisis concluyente, ya que la diversidad de especies en muchos casos se infiere a partir de unos pocos individuos o fragmentos óseos distribuidos en amplias zonas geográficas. No obstante, el notable éxito evolutivo de nuestro género no se atribuye únicamente al incremento en la capacidad (...) cerebral -desde Australopithecus, con un volumen cerebral aproximado de 500 cm3 a Homo sapiens entre 1500-1700 cm3- o a las variaciones genómicas. También deben considerarse otros factores, como los culturales, sociales y ecológicos. La interacción entre las distintas especies y su entorno en un ecosistema es fundamental en cualquier proceso evolutivo. Todo ajuste, regulación o interacción en el mismo, como indica Margalef, determinará el equilibrio necesario hacia la supervivencia o el declive del sistema. Para establecer un diálogo interdisciplinar entre la ecología integral y la antropología evolutiva, hemos considerado incluir las teorías cognitivas modernas como la Teoría del Compromiso Material (MET), la ciencia cognitiva (CS) y la biología cognitiva (BC). Estas teorías resaltan la importancia de considerar la cognición no solo como un proceso interno, sino como algo que está profundamente arraigado en el contexto material y social. Este artículo examina cómo el ambiente pudo influir en la evolución del género Homo y viceversa, proponiendo un análisis interdisciplinario que integra ecología ambiental, económica, social y cultural, o lo que el papa Francisco denominó ecología integral, con la antropología evolutiva. Based on the analysis of primary documentation from interrogation manuals from both the United States and the countries of the South American cone -Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile-, as well as reports issued by the different countries, the aim of the article is to analyse the common patterns in the detention and torture process suffered by guerrillas and insurgents belonging to violent organisations. We also seek to highlight the importance of the US model and the mutual influences between the dictatorships (...) that developed in these Latin American countries in the 1960s and 1970s, and to draw a comparative line in the methodology used by the police and military forces. The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of school principal trustworthiness components (i.e., ability, integrity, benevolence) in helping shape teacher trust and affective commitment within schools. Using data from 1,026 teachers in Spain and structural equation modeling (via EQS 6.3), this study establishes how a principal’s integrity and benevolence are key in determining, both directly and indirectly (via trust in the principal), teachers’ affective commitment to their school. It also reveals that the perceived ability of a principal (...) is not effective in generating trust or affective commitment to the school in teachers. As a contribution to the literature, these findings reveal that the ethical trustworthiness (benevolence, integrity) of principals is key in engendering trust and affective commitment to schools. Thus, to shape work environments that are high in trust and commitment, principals should focus on behaving in ways that make their integrity and benevolence manifest to their teachers. (shrink)

The dream of the conversion in Ramon Llull is related with the own author’s vital vicissitudes. Therefore, the Islamic influence in the lulian system is obvious, besides the knowledge of Arab sources on the part of the author. On the other hand, Mohammed’s vision and the Islam that Ramon Llull presents is intimately related with its apologetic plans, inserting it in the Christian tradition of rebuttal, being in to traditional way a topic like the Antichrist.

Training for sustainable development is an educational challenge of prime importance. Physical activity and sports in natural environments provide training committed to sustainability and environmental education. The objective of this study was to assess the effects of an undergraduate training program in Physical Activities and Sports in Natural Environments concerned with sustainable development. A total of 113 students from the Autonomous University of Madrid who are studying a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences and a Master’s Degree in (...) Teacher Training for Secondary Education and High School were involved. Specifically, we aimed to assess the impact of this training program on three dimensions related to Environmental Education. Its effect was also examined bearing in mind students’ sex, age and educational profile. Mixed-methods were used: for the quantitative approach, data were collected with the Environmental Attitude in Physical Activities in Natural Environments validated scale; for the qualitative approach individual reflective diaries completed by students that attended the program were analyzed. The results show positive effects on the students regarding the three dimensions of Environmental Education, for both the sportive and educational training profiles. The quantitative results do not present significant differences concerning the gender variable, although the qualitative information shows that female students perceived a greater environmental sensitivity during their practices. Regarding the age variable, significant differences are found in the youngest students with an educational profile. To conclude, the study ratifies that the program carried out generated improvements in terms of knowledge, behaviors and attitudes toward the environment and sustainable development. Future research should use larger samples and consider other variables related to education for sustainability. (shrink)

This article discusses the imbrication of racialising and sexualising scientific practices of gender testing and verification in elite athletics competition, and their intersection with social politics, using as a theoretical frame the feminist, anti-racist work of Hortense Spillers (2003), Judith Butler (1990, 1993a, 1993b, 2004) and Anne Fausto-Sterling (2000), among others. It traces the practice of sex-gender testing of ‘women’ at sanctioned International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and International Olympic Committee (IOC) track and field competitions in order to contextualise (...) South African middle-distance runner Caster Semenya’s experiences at the 2009 Berlin World Championships and the subsequent spectacularisation of her body through the discursive practices of representation. With everything, this knowledge, according to Llull, it cannot only be carried out by means of Faith or Reason for themselves, but, rather, for reason of a comparison of both disciplines. In such a way, by means of (...) a demonstration that is defined in comparative terms, the man can end up understanding superior entities to his intellect -such as the divine one-, because a correspondence settles down among same elements. Mucho se ha hablado de coodesarrollo, como de casi todas las cosas cuando se ponen de moda, no obstante yo creo que todavía no está bien definido el marco conceptual o al menos no hay un criterio uniforme de dicho marco que nos permita a todos partir de un mismo punto y tener los mismos indicadores que nos señalen cual es el punto de partida y también el de llegada. We live in an era of unprecedented interconnectivity and challenges that require global mindsets and creative approaches. While research on global identification has increased in recent years, the question of whether it can facilitate creativity remains largely unexplored. Moreover, despite the evidence linking multicultural experiences and global identities, migrant populations have been overly underrepresented in this area of research. We examine the association between global culture identification and creativity in the Alternate Uses Test, across two different samples residing in Spain: (...) a host national and majorly student sample and a culturally diverse immigrant sample. Additionally, we test the predictive value of ethnic identification and host culture identification. Regression analyses reveal that global culture identification positively predicts creativity among host national participants, and host culture identification predicts creativity among immigrant participants. Our results suggest that developing a cultural identity that transcends the one acquired through enculturation has the potential of facilitating creative behavior. (shrink)

The hypothesis of this paper is that writers with similar academic backgrounds express personal attitudes in English and in Spanish differently in research papers. Thus, the main objectives are, first, to study the differences in the use of attitude devices in Spanish and English academic discourse; second, to compare the results in the different sections of articles; and finally to study the positive or negative semantic implications of the lexical items by carrying out a sentiment analysis. To this end, fifteen (...) Spanish industrial engineering papers were compared with fifteen English industrial engineering papers. The results showed that there are in fact differences in the way academic writers communicate attitude, but the sentiment analysis revealed that neutral lexical items were the most commonly used in engineering research papers. Even though engineering researchers share the knowledge of the specialist content and the academic style of expressing their thoughts, personal attitudes were expressed in different ways in Spanish and in English. El giro crítico del arte conceptual en los años sesenta, la subsiguiente aparición de estrategias de hibridación y escenificación a finales de los setenta y, en paralelo, la institucionalización de la fotografía con su entrada al museo y el surgimiento de un pujante mercado fotográfico, constituyen el caldo de cultivo en el que se gesta la demanda de la teoría de la fotografía como disciplina con identidad epistemológica propia. Esta demanda se hizo explícita a través de las iniciativas llevadas a (...) cabo por Rosalind Krauss y Annette Michelson en el número 5 de la revista October en 1978, por Alan Trachtenberg en Classic Essays on Photography en 1980 y de modo más categórico por Victor Burgin en Thinking Photography en 1982. El presente artículo analiza los argumentos y posiciones intelectuales sobre la necesidad de articular un discurso teórico sobre fotografía, así como los aspectos epistemológicos y sociales asociados a la idea de teoría subyacente en cada una de las propuestas. Por último, se realiza una breve aproximación al ámbito teórico español a través de la publicación en 1984 del libro Estética fotográfica y en 1997 de El beso de Judas, ambos de Joan Fontcuberta. In this paper I examine the ethnographic, ethnological and anthropological aspect of Julia Kristeva’s semanalysis, signalling _About Chinese women_ [1974] as a clear example of its application. Dialoguing with the French structuralist semiology of the second half of the 20th century, and influenced by Lévi-Strauss’ structural anthropology, Kristeva introduces the issue of human sociocultural diversity in the very constitution of her semanalysis, thus questioning the ethnocentrism implicit in some of the elements of semiology. From this perspective, and taking into account (...) Kristeva’s own explicit positioning, _About Chinese women_ appears, not as a work of exclusively political motivations that responds to the political climate after May '68, marked by the debacle of the French Communist Party, but as the result of a sociocultural interest akin to the ethnographic, ethnological and anthropological approach. L'oeuvre Teologías deicidas, de Horacio Bojorge, a le mérite de faire un bilan critique de la pensée de J.L. Segundo appuyée sur une documentation aussi large que choisie. En ce qui concerne l'Informe critique de ses écrits plus importants, sa méthode et son contenu, elle rend largement actuelle la littérature critique relative au théologien uruguayen. Mais, en Teorema, où on cherche argumenta probantia d'un prétendu rationalisme de J.L. Segundo, il devient difficile de la suivre car elle offre en plusieurs points (...) importants une idée insuffisante de la systématique et de la théologie fondamentale. L'Auteur est un exégète compétent, mais son information dépend de quelques prémisses insuffisamment fondées. Ses réflexions au sujet de la pensée de J.L. Segundo peuvent aider à voir plus clairement certains aspects encore confus du débat, et pour cela il peut être utile de le suivre sur plus d'un point. Mais, son insinuation, ou sa suspicion, au titre d'un jugement de fond au sujet de Segundo, sont excessives. Ses erreurs peuvent être de nature logique, philosophique et théologique, mais cela ne l'autorise pas à la considération de sa pensée comme hérétique formaliter. En plus, sa critique s'appuie sur des conclusions difficilement démontrables, par exemple que l'Apologétique, ou théologie fondamentale, ne soit pas théologie ou que J.L. Segundo durcisse autour d'un paradigme de subordination de la foi à la raison critique. Il semble plus probable. (shrink)

This study analyzes the meaning of the first article of faith: In the biblical message the unique and true God appears as the ultimate principle of all realities, as the object of the religious sense of all people, as the 'deus ignotus', creator of the universe and provident father of the human race, who, as the 'deus revelatus' manifests himself as the God of Israel, Lord of the covenant and Father of Jesus . Taking into account the Gospel message on (...) the all-powerful God as loving Father, the article studies the theological tradition of the Church, the symbol of whose faith begins with the words: Credo in unum Deum Patrem omnipotentem. God the Father emerges, in the affirmation of Denys of Rome, in the Symbol of the Apostles, in the faith of Nicea and in other documents of Church tradition, as the absolute and infinite reality, transcendant and personal, 'ingenitus aeternus', Principle without principle of the intrinsic divine life and of the history of salvation. The Church language, denying gnostic dualism, identifies the creator God of the old covenant with the merciful Father of the new salvific dispensation. Against patripatian Sabellianism the tradition affirms the distinction between the 'Pater ingenitus' and the only begotten Son. In order to overcome the challenges of modernity and the loss of consciousness regarding the difference between Creator and creature, the Councils of Vatican I and II remain faithful to the 'regula fide.
